I hit a personal landmark on the website last week. Friday’s short story marked the 100th post on the website. Break out the beer and pinatas! It may not be much, but it’s a start.
I really haven’t played with the content lineup too much since I’ve started, and it may be time to reevaluate my strategy for drawing visitors. Which means a change in the overall schedule, among other things. The one thing I’m gonna keep the same regardless will be the Merc Rules. Short stories are a big time sink on top of everything else, and I have a lot of projects in the works that take a hit when I’m trying to keep up with doing a story a week.
Sometimes other writers can pick up the slack in that area, but it’s not something that I can give a firm commitment to at this time. As much as I’d like to promise to continue a short story every Friday… changes may be on the way.
These potential changes are part of an ongoing discussion with my peers, Chris Herron (author of TallTaleTv), and Alex Gyftogiannis, my cocreator and sometimes cowriter. Which brings me to my next bit of news.
It’s time for another trip. This one’s more for pleasure than business. Well, technically, I suppose it’s both.
I’m headed up to Queens, New York to stay with Alex and family for just over a week. This will be my fifth trip up that way since our dudebro-ship started back in 2004. We usually take in some sights, get lots of local food and beer, go out and watch a shitty movie, and try to get some project-related work done.
This year we have a lot more to discuss than usual as we’ve been highly productive, and the scope of our efforts has changed shape quite a bit. Hopefully, by the time I return in the middle of next week, I’ll have some cool news for you all. It’ll likely be a new schedule and an update on what sort of projects you can look forward to in the coming months.
In the meantime, look forward to getting the usual merc rules and maybe (hopefully) The Other Boot Drops part 2 on Friday.
Until next time…
